Because we know Beagles inside and out, we also know that the dog you think you want isn’t always the one who will be the best match. They’re all adorable (part of their charm!), but personality and needs matter most. Our adoption process helps us get to know you and helps you get to know our Beagles, so we can find that perfect match together.

Steps to Adoption

Research
Beagles come in all shapes, a variety of colors, and definitely a variety of personalities and temperaments! Are you looking for a couch potato to watch TV with? Or are you looking for an energetic dog who loves to play? Do your homework as this breed is not for everyone! Check out Beagles 101.

Phone Consultation
A member of our adoption team will give you a call to discuss your application and the type of dog you’re looking for. Working with you a beagle will be identified as good fit for your family and your living arrangements.

Home Visit
If we believe we may have a good match for you, one of our volunteers will give you a call to schedule a home visit. Don’t worry — we’re not checking to see how spotless your home is! Our main focus is making sure everything is safe for a curious Beagle, especially your yard and fencing. As you’ve probably learned, Beagles will follow their noses wherever they can, so a secure environment is essential.
We’ll point out any areas that might need a little attention, if any, and this is also a great time for you to ask questions about the breed or our adoption process. Please note that the volunteer visiting your home may not be the person making the final adoption decisions. Once the visit is complete, they’ll share their notes with our Adoption Program Manager to move things forward.

Meet & Greet
We will arrange for you to meet the Beagle we have mutually agreed upon. This is a no-obligation meeting that gives you a chance to see the dog in person. If it’s love at first sight, awesome! If not, we’ll keep trying until a perfect match is made.

Adoption Day!
You’ve made it through what might feel like a long process, but the moment you look into those sweet Beagle eyes, you’ll know it was worth every step! Your new Beagle will either be brought right to your home, or we’ll arrange a meeting place and time that works for everyone.
You’ll have a chance to meet your dog again, and if everything feels right, we’ll take care of the paperwork on the spot. This includes the Adoption Agreement, Transfer of Ownership, health and microchip information, and a helpful packet full of Beagle tips.
Once the adoption fee is collected, your new companion will finally be placed into your waiting arms.

Post Adoption Services
Within 72 hours of your adoption, someone from our team will check in with you to make sure the transition is going great. Sometimes there are questions and we are always here for you….ALWAYS!
